Dance movement better than copying steps

All Styles Tribe dance studio is fortunate to have Allan “Ajaye” Hilla-Skeene teaching Hip Hop Dance weekly at 7:30 pm on Mondays. He is a high level talented experienced dance professional that is grounded in the basic fundamentals. I am a big fan and had to get a selfie with him. Ha ha.

Ajaye's classes are challenging but he breaks down so everyone can follow. He makes dance class fun while getting everyone in training mode. The intention is to get better, build confidence, and always sit in the music first.
I appreciate Ajaye investing his time in our new studio and bringing his style of dance to a new Los Angeles neighborhood. All the students are excited about the high quality dance and not having to drive all the way to North Hollywood. He is a big part of putting All Styles Tribe dance studio on the map at 5156 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90016.
Philosophy and approach
Individuality over approval: He explicitly tells younger dancers to “be an individual” and not let fear of others’ opinions stunt training or identity.
Work ethic + deliberate training: He ties his mindset to watching how “greats” operate (athletes, creators, entrepreneurs) and describes periods where every day became a training exercise toward being ready for LA-level work.
Versatility + discomfort as growth: He advises dancers to expand vocabulary across styles, and to “get comfortable with what makes you uncomfortable” (he mentions using ballet/jazz for structure and performance quality).
Performance as character + embodiment: He frames dancers as actors—embodying music with presence, even in stillness.

Career history
Early start + hometown training: He’s described his first spark as coming from Michael Jackson as a kid, and said his mom put him into early hip-hop/gymnastics classes at his aunt’s studio (“Kim’s Danceland”).
College decision → “dance as career”: In an interview, he says he decided to pursue dance professionally in college, after initially moving to Atlanta for school and then throwing himself into heavy training (multiple classes daily, long commutes, constant practice).
First major touring break (2008): He identifies a promo tour with Lloyd (summer 2008) as his first big break.
TV/film breaks (early 2010s): In the same interview, he notes follow-on “big breaks” including Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew (Season 5) and Step Up Revolution (2012).
Arena/world touring (mid-2010s): He calls a defining moment being featured on Ariana Grande’s Honeymoon Tour (2015)—describing it as the world-tour dream becoming real.
Ongoing industry work (2010s → now): His official site lists him as both dancer + choreographer, with choreography credits (e.g., EXO-SC, Lloyd, Soul Train Awards 2020, etc.) and a long roster of performance credits across major pop/R&B acts.
Recent era (2025): Multiple posts/interviews identify him as a dancer on Chris Brown’s “Breezy Bowl” Tour.
